Hamdard University Library, Jamia Hamdard

University Library is one of the oldest Institutions of Jamia Hamdard. It was established in 1960 with a small beginning as a library attached to Hamdard Dawakhana(Wakf). The Library was moved to new campus of the erstwhile Institute of History of Medicine and Medical Research. The Library of Indian Institute of Islamic Studies was shifted in 1977. After the establishment of Hamdard University in 1989, all collections were merged to constitute the Central Library of the university.
Jamia Hamdard Library system consists of Central Library and six faculty libraries. The Central Library of the university was named as Hakim Mohammed Said Central Library in 1992 after the name of younger brother of the founder Late Hakeem Abdul Hameed Saheb. Since then, the library has been acquiring quite a large number of resources in conventional and non-conventional forms.
The library has more than 1.75 lakhs items including 30,000 rare books,18,500 back sets of journals. Library subscribes to foreign and Indian journals. It has acquired quite a large number of CDs, micro-films, micro-fiche and more than 4000 manuscripts in Urdu, Arabic and Persian languages.
